Additional Requirements for Mid-Academic Year (Year 10 or Year 11 Joiners)

Before Year 10 begins, students will choose subjects to study for the next two years for their GCSE Examinations. Students take their GCSE exams at the end of Year 11. The outcome of these exams will influence the A-level subjects they choose.

Joining the school after Year 10 has commenced means your child will need to catch up with their studies. If your child would like to join our school mid-way through Year 10 or in Year 11, we will require additional documents in the application:

  1. Evidence of ability to catch up (optional)
    a. Documents demonstrating experience with GCSE study
    b. A list of which GCSE subjects your child is currently studying
  2. Information about the current curriculum your child is studying, and which subjects are being studied
  3. Acknowledgement from parents that joining after the beginning of Year 10 is a challenge and may affect your child’s GCSE grades.

English Requirements

All Harrow Appi lessons and examinations are conducted in English (with the exception of Modern Foreign Languages). Therefore we will assess your child’s English ability during the application process.

If you would like a general idea of what level of English is expected, we have provided CEFR and GSE approximations* based on UK government guidelines below.

*These are just approximations; Harrow Appi provides a strong EAL programme to support students’ English development when they are enrolled in the school. If you are concerned about your child’s English level, we encourage you to get in touch with admissions who will provide advice.

How to Apply

Deadlines

There are no application deadlines and we accept applications throughout the year.

Recommended Time to Apply

To secure your child’s place at our school, applications should be submitted early in the academic year (from September to January). Places are extremely limited in order to maintain an appropriate student to teacher ratio.

If you are concerned you are too late to apply to our school, we encourage you to get in touch with admissions who will provide advice.

Recommended Time to Join the School

Ideally your child should join Harrow Appi at the beginning of the Autumn Term in late August. This will allow your child to begin their school life at the same time as most of their classmates and make their transition to Harrow Appi life smoother.

If this is not possible, at the beginning of the Winter Term is the second best option.

Joining part-way through term time is possible but not recommended.

Application Process

Step 1 – Submit the Online Application

Harrow Appi uses ‘OpenApply’ to accept applications. You can view the required documents and create your account here:

Step 2 – Join the Online Test

Once the application has been submitted, your child will be invited to take an online test. The test takes two hours and consists of two parts:

  • Online test (90 minutes)
    • This is an externally moderated online computer test which assesses Mathematics, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning. There is no preparation required for this test.
  • Online English writing test (20 minutes)
    • Your child will be asked to write a small piece about a specific topic.

Step 3 – Have an Online Interview

If your child passess the online assessment, they will be invited to join an interview with the Head Master (or another Senior Harrow Educator), either online or face to face.

Step 4 – Receiving an Offer

If your child passess assessments and the interview, you will receive an offer from the school. You will have one week to accept this offer.

Step 5 – Paying the School Deposit and the Enrolment Fee

Once the offer is accepted, you should pay a school deposit and enrolment fee to secure the place. View Fees here.

Step 6 – Beginning the Enrolment Procedures

Once the school deposit and enrolment fee are paid, we will begin enrolment procedures. This will include uniform and equipment purchasing, visa procedures (if needed) and everything else required for your child to be ready for their first day.

If you have questions about the application process, we encourage you to get in touch with admissions for further advice.
